Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Specialty Classes
Mid-tier certifications with specific tools—armor walls, obstacle leaps, and line multi-hits.
Specialty classes after the August 4, 2026 Direct
Nintendo’s August 4, 2026 Fortune’s Weave Direct locked the middle rung of the certification ladder: Specialty. Official copy states there are over ten Specialty classes, each built around a specific battlefield ability rather than a vague “better beginner” bump. This page documents that mid tier for Heroic Games prep in Dagsion ahead of the September 17, 2026 Switch 2 launch.
Read foundations on Beginner Classes, masteries on Advanced Classes, movement fantasy on Mounts & Ornius, and kit-only rankings on the speculative Class Tier List. The Classes Hub maps every band.
Where Specialty sits on the ladder
Fortune’s Weave uses three certification bands:
- Beginner — five foundational roles (gladiators, diviners, Ornius riders, and more) that teach swords, spears, axes, gauntlets, bows, and magic.
- Specialty — over ten focused jobs with headline tools such as ironclad defense, obstacle leaps, and straight-line multi-hits.
- Advanced — masters of their skills, including Cataphracts, Guardians, Elephant Riders, and Dragoons called out in press coverage.
Specialty is not Advanced with a softer name. Mid-tier exams exist so your roster can stabilize during tougher Heroic Games brackets without waiting for late Renown gates. Advanced masters such as Cataphracts and Elephant Riders remain aspirational caps; Specialty armored knights, wing soldiers, and Charioteers are the jobs most competitive mid-tournament armies will actually live in.
Confirmed Specialty identities
Armored knights
Armored knights are the Direct’s ironclad-defense example. They hold Arena gates, screen mages, and buy turns for Heroes who need a clean Blaze Art window. Expect slower world-map pacing than Ornius or wing lines, which matters when calendar days are scarce. Pair armor Specialty with Temple Row Blessings before finals so Burst turns do not erase the wall you paid for.
Wing soldiers
Wing soldiers leap obstacles and cover long distances. They extend the geometry-bypass fantasy past Beginner Ornius riders without requiring you to jump straight into Advanced flight masters. Stadium chokes, raised platforms, and cluttered approach tiles are their natural habitat. Full species rules (whether they share the Ornius creature type, indoor penalties, or bow weakness colors) remain unpublished—see Mounts & Ornius for the movement stack that includes both Ornius and wing soldiers.
Charioteers
Charioteers can strike multiple enemies in a straight line. That line multi-hit identity changes how you bait packed tournament AI and how carefully you place allies before a charge. Practice angles with Fortuna’s Blessing rewinds; a misaimed line can clip friends as easily as it clears a bracket. Chariots also tax weapon durability when stacked with Combat Arts, so shop and enhance in Dagsion before you spam them every player phase.
The rest of “over ten”
Nintendo confirmed the count and three showcase jobs; the remaining Specialty names will fill in from menus and launch data. Do not invent unlisted classes here. Weapon-locked certification means you should train Arena ranks that match the Specialty tool you want—armor for walls, mounted or flight skills for wing soldiers, and the weapon primaries your Charioteer line actually swings.
How Specialty exams fit the Heroic Games loop
Between matches you speak to an exam proctor in Dagsion. Success is not guaranteed. Raise recommended skills in the Arena, bank materials from dungeons and towns on the Dagda map, then schedule the Specialty attempt before a bracket that punishes Beginner bulk.
Practical pacing tips:
- Certify Specialty when Beginner tools stop answering enemy density, not the moment a trailer silhouette looks cool.
- Keep one flexible Specialty slot for map surprises instead of forcing every unit into a meme niche.
- Do not starve inventory for an early Advanced dream if a Specialty armored knight already wins the current matchup.
- Watch other participants on match days so you know whether the next opponent punishes walls, fliers, or line packs.
Specialty tools versus Hero Blaze Arts
Upper jobs amplify—not replace—Hero signatures covered on Combat:
- Cai (wide flame Blaze) likes Charioteer finishers and armored screens that hold while burned packs die.
- Dietrich (cloak warp) rewards wing soldiers and other high-move pieces that meet him after a reposition.
- Theodora (long-range pressure in Direct coverage) wants armored knights and heal-capable neighbors while she lines shots.
- Leda (buffs and summon teases) benefits from sturdy Specialty holders who protect her support turns.
Avatar-like Eshmel framing arrives in the later Balor crisis; early Games chapters still revolve around the four Heroes. Speculative Specialty ranks that fold these synergies live on the Class Tier List under an explicit Specialty band with August Direct caveats.
Specialty versus Advanced — when to wait
Rushing Advanced before Specialty pays off is a common pre-release mistake. Advanced masters—Cataphracts (horse mobility plus heavy armor), Guardians (white magic and spears), Elephant Riders on giant mounts, and Dragoons highlighted in August press—carry higher exam gates (UI coverage suggested roughly Lv35 and Renown near Lv8 for some Advanced rows). Specialty already answers most midgame questions: walls, leaps, and line clears.
Use Advanced when you need the mastery package—hybrid horse-armor Cataphracts, giant elephant footprints, or Guardian hybrid duty—not because the word “Advanced” sounds finished. Cross-check those caps on Advanced Classes and mount rules on Mounts & Ornius.
Weapons, Combat Arts, and formation play
Beginner lanes teach swords, spears, axes, gauntlets, bows, and magic. Specialty adds formation-level tools on top of those lanes. Combat Arts still spend durability for spikes; Gambits and adjacent buffs still care about grids that Charioteer lines and wing perches rearrange. Crests and Hero’s Relics return in Three Houses-evoking forms—certify the weapon type first, then the Specialty silhouette.
Deep system text belongs on Combat and Weapons. Hero preferences sit under Characters. Direct source notes land on August Direct and Direct Summaries.
Recommended study path
- Lock a Beginner core on Beginner Classes.
- Pick one Specialty identity per role hole (wall, leap, line clear) using this page.
- Decide which Advanced masters are worth calendar days on Advanced Classes.
- Stress-test movement on Mounts & Ornius.
- Compare speculative ranks on the Class Tier List, remembering Specialty is a full tier—not a footnote under Advanced.
- Sketch ladders in the Class Reference tool.
Uncertainty flags (August Direct)
- Full Specialty catalog beyond armored knights, wing soldiers, and Charioteers is incomplete.
- Exact leap rules, chariot friendly-fire behavior, and armor move costs are unreleased.
- Certification skill letters and Renown gates may change at launch.
- Balance will shift after day-one patches.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers grounded in what Nintendo has revealed so far.
How many Specialty classes are there?
The August 4, 2026 Direct states there are over ten Specialty classes, each with specific abilities. Only armored knights, wing soldiers, and Charioteers were named as showcase examples.
What do Specialty Charioteers do?
Official copy says Charioteers can strike multiple enemies in a straight line—a formation-punishing multi-hit tool for packed brackets.
How is Specialty different from Advanced?
Specialty is the mid tier with over ten focused jobs. Advanced classes are masters such as Cataphracts, Guardians, Elephant Riders, and Dragoons with higher exam gates. See Advanced Classes for the mastery band.
Do wing soldiers replace Ornius Riders?
No. Ornius Riders are a Beginner high-move foundation. Wing soldiers are Specialty tools that leap obstacles and cover long distances. Compare both on Mounts & Ornius.
When should I take a Specialty exam?
After Arena skills make success likely and before tougher Heroic Games brackets punish Beginner bulk. Success is not guaranteed—raise recommended skills first in Dagsion.
